Our Baby Room provides a calm, nurturing and secure environment where our youngest children can begin their early learning journey with confidence. We understand that starting nursery can be a big step for both babies and parents, so our caring and experienced team work closely with families to ensure every child feels safe, settled and supported.

The room is thoughtfully designed to encourage exploration through sensory play, movement and discovery. Babies have access to soft play spaces, sensory resources, books and age-appropriate toys that help support their early development.

Our practitioners focus on building strong, trusting relationships with each child. Through warm interactions, songs, stories and play, babies develop early communication skills, confidence and curiosity about the world around them.

We also work closely with parents to maintain familiar routines around sleep, feeding and comfort, helping each child feel secure and supported throughout their day. We also have a separate outdoor area for our babies providing a secure and stimulating outdoor learning experience to encourage them to explore the great outdoors.

Our Toddler Room is a vibrant and engaging environment where children begin to grow in confidence, independence and curiosity. At this stage, children are developing rapidly, and our experienced team support this through a balance of structured activities and child-led play.

The room is set up to encourage exploration, creativity and social interaction. Children can enjoy a wide range of activities including imaginative play, construction, creative arts, stories, music and outdoor learning. Practitioners gently guide toddlers as they begin to develop friendships, communication skills and early independence.

Through play and everyday experiences, children learn to share, express themselves and explore new ideas. We place strong emphasis on building confidence and supporting children as they begin to take small steps towards greater independence, preparing them for the transition into our Pre-School Room.

Our Preschool Room is a stimulating and inspiring environment where children begin to build the skills, confidence and independence that prepare them for their transition to school. At this stage, children are naturally curious and eager to learn.

Our experienced team supports this through a rich programme of play-based learning, carefully planned around the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework. Activities are designed to develop early literacy, communication, problem-solving and social skills while allowing children to explore their own interests and ideas.

Children have access to a wide range of engaging learning opportunities including creative arts, construction, role play, early maths activities, stories, music and outdoor exploration. Practitioners encourage children to ask questions, think independently and develop confidence in their abilities.

We place particular focus on supporting children’s independence and preparing them for the next stage of their education. Everyday routines help children develop important life skills such as self-care, cooperation and resilience. By the time children leave our Pre-School Room, they are confident learners who are well prepared and excited for the transition to Primary School.

Set in a converted cottage, our nursery provides a real home-from home for the children in our care and has been specifically designed to provide stimulating, child-centred facilities.

As a small, intimate setting with a maximum of just 28 children, we are committed to providing a safe and nurturing learning environment.

With a free-flow indoor area, we encourage our children to explore the world around them and create the foundations of a love for learning.

We understand the importance of a healthy, balanced diet for young children, so not only do we promise to meet your child’s nutritional requirements we also strive to encourage good food habits.

Meal times include breakfast, dinner and tea if required, and our aim is to provide fresh, balanced meals to all children at every meal or snack time.

We also believe that meal times are a key part of the learning experience, from the fine motor development of using knives and forks, to awareness of good manners and politeness.

We use fresh fruit and vegetables every day and all allergies and dietary requirements are catered for.

At High Legh Pre-School Nursery we believe that some of the most meaningful learning happens outdoors. Our outdoor learning approach gives children the opportunity to explore, investigate and discover the world around them in a natural and engaging way.

Children spend time outside every day, enjoying fresh air and active play while developing important physical skills such as balance, coordination and strength. Outdoor experiences also support children’s wellbeing, helping them build confidence, resilience and independence.

Our garden spaces provide opportunities for children to explore nature, observe the changing seasons and develop curiosity about the environment. Activities may include planting and gardening, investigating natural materials, water and sand play, creative outdoor activities and imaginative role play.

Outdoor learning encourages children to take safe risks, solve problems and work together. It allows them to use their imagination, develop independence and build strong connections with the natural world. Through these experiences, children develop confidence, curiosity and a love of learning that supports them throughout their early years and beyond

As part of our continued commitment to enhancing the learning environment, the nursery has invested in a dedicated Summer House located within and extending from our smaller garden area. This purpose-built space provides a valuable additional learning environment that complements both our indoor provision and outdoor classroom.

The Summer House is fully equipped with heating and lighting, ensuring it can be used comfortably and safely throughout the year. This allows us to maximise learning opportunities in all seasons, supporting flexibility within our daily routine.

The space is primarily used for:

Focused small group activities – enabling staff to work with children in a calm, distraction-free environment to support specific areas of development if required.

Targeted interventions – including speech and language support, school readiness sessions, and key person activities.

Sensory sessions – providing a quieter, contained space where children can explore sensory resources in a more controlled and nurturing setting.

Wellbeing and nurture time – supporting emotional regulation and offering a calm retreat when needed.

By extending from the garden, the Summer House maintains strong links with our outdoor provision while offering a defined, purposeful learning space. It enhances our ability to tailor activities to children’s individual needs and supports our commitment to delivering high-quality early years education in a stimulating and adaptable environment.

This addition strengthens our overall provision, ensuring we can continue to offer varied, inclusive and enriching experiences for all children.

We are very lucky to have really strong partnerships with lots of local businesses and organisations to enable us to take the children on day-trips and outings to help enhance their learning journey.

Places we love to visit include nearby farms, High Legh Garden Centre, parks and the local primary school.

We also have regular visitors at nursery to talk to the children about different things, which has included the fire service and a farmer who brought along a baby lamb for the children to pet.
